Santa Cruz electrifies and mullets another bike: Meet the new Bullit

Hot on the Heckler’s heels, Santa Cruz has added a drive system to another of their long-standing MTB nameplates: The Bullit. The new Bullit eMTB is a long-travel, mixed-wheel machine built to get rowdy on the gnarliest trails, then get you back to the top for another lap. This bike could be one of the best ‘self-shuttle’ eMTB options for long-travel riders who love thrashing rough terrain.

Not only will the Bullit gobble up rough descents while retaining nimble handling due to its mullet setup, its newly added EP8 motor and 630Wh battery will also allow you to ride further, or squeeze in an extra lap. And we all know more riding = more fun!

The Bullit now serves as Santa Cruz’s long travel eMTB, offering 170mm of Lower-Link VPP rear travel. All models are equipped with 170mm forks (all of which have beefy 38mm stanchions, too). The new Bullit will only be sold with Santa Cruz’s CC grade carbon frames, and only as an ‘MX’ bike with the mullet/mixed wheel setup.

The Bullit was definitely built to plow through the rough stuff, with a steering angle of 64° complementing that 29” front wheel and 170mm fork, and not-so-short 449mm chainstays across all frame sizes. Reach numbers are up-to-date but not excessive, and the seat masts are quite steep. Mullet purists will appreciate that the Bullit wasn’t adapted or adjusted to fit its mixed wheels, it was specifically built around them. See the chart below for complete specs, and please note the Bullit is not available in Small frame sizes.

Electronics:

Electronic components are matched to the Bullit’s build kits similarly to Santa Cruz’s recently updated Hecklers: All but the base models feature Shimano’s new EP8 motor, and all Bullits include a 630Wh battery. The entry-level Bullit R retains Shimano’s E7000 motor.

The S and R models use Shimano’s SC-E7000 displays, while the XT and X01 RSV models get SC-EM800 display units.

Unlike the Hecklers Santa Cruz has opted to offer two coil equipped models of the Bullit eMTB – The higher-spec XT and X01 RSV models can be purchased with either air or coil rear shocks. The coil/air build kits are the same price, and all components are identical other than the rear shocks.
