Revamped LOOK 895 Vitesse carbon track bike hit the boards

LOOK has a new 895 Vitesse carbon track bike, combining aero tech from this year’s Tokyo Olympics, the previous Rio Olympics, and all the way back to Atlanta in 1996. The new 895 Vitesse is a mid-range reworking of Look’s long-running R96 upgraded, now promising improved aerodynamics and stiffness thanks to the front end of their newer T20, all at almost half the price.

Look’s latest T20 that debuted at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is still their absolute fastest, lightest & stiffest carbon track bike – having been ridden to a couple of Bronze medals. But at 7500€ for the made-in-France frame kit, that’s a steep price for anyone without deep-pocketed sponsors. Even the old R96 developed for Rio 2016 still sells for 7000€, also ridden to team sprint Bronze back in 2016.

But now, by matching the tech developed in the old R96 with the faster front end of the T20 and moving production to Look’s own carbon factory in Tunisia, they’ve cut the cost of entry in half while still taking advantage of Look’s in-house carbon tech and 30-year pro-development partnership with French national track team.

Look calls the new 895 Vitesse a gap filler “designed for ultimate aerodynamics on the track”. The 20% hi-mod/ 65% medium modulus / 15% high resistance carbon monocoque frame has been optimized for stiffness and to survive the rough life of racing shoulder-to-shoulder in the velodrome under some of the most powerful cyclists in the world. And while the rear end of the newer T20 posts incrementally lower drag figures, the new 895 promises much of the same speed at more realistic pricing.

The new forks of the T20 also bring with them the integrated, adjustable Carbon Track Stem that uses a round insert securely let riders set any positive or negative stem angle they need for the perfect fit for any racing discipline, with interchangeable stem lengths from 55-140mm long.

The deep but narrow carbon frame sets its chainstays wide to the bottom bracket for max stiffness, and tucks the rear wheel tight in behind the seattube and integrated seatmast for smooth airflow. A proprietary, reversible seatmast cap offers tons of horizontal adjustment to dial in any saddle position.
