REI Co-op cycles adds a bargain-priced Fat Bike, capable new commuter e-bikes
The Co-op Cycles DRT 4.1 is REI’s housebrand’s first-ever fat bike, and it’s an affordable option for winter cruising. It has a rigid 6061 aluminum frame and fork with simple SRAM SX Eagle 1×12 group and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. It’s rolling on 26” aluminum rims with big Innova 26×4.8 inch tires.
Modern touches like through axles and bag/rack mounts give it a little extra versatility. If you’re fat-curious and just want something to kick around in when the snow hits, or on the beach, grab it here for $1,299.
Co-op CTY Town-to-Trail commuter e-bikes
Co-op Cycles’ first foray into electric pedal assist bikes are designed for “town-to-trail”. Two models are offered, both with a Class 1 rating (max 20mph assist). And both share the same 6061 aluminum frame and approximate complete bike weight of 51-52 lbs.
The CTY e2.2 e-bikes get upright geometry, and they come with an integrated rack, low stand-over, front suspension, and Shimano E6100 250W motor and 504Wh battery, with 60Nm max torque. It has 3 assist modes plus walk assist, and has up to a 50-mile pedal assist range.
The CTY 2.2 is the higher end model and comes with full front and rear fenders. Other spec includes 27.5 x 1.95 Schwalbe tires, an adjustable stem, front and rear lights, memory foam saddle and center kickstand. It also comes in a step-thru design. Retail is $2,199.
The Co-op Cycles CTY e2.1 has the same frame and most of the same spec, including a 75mm travel Suntour fork, hydraulic disc brakes and Shimano Acera/Alivio drivetrain.
It loses the fenders, and steps down to a Shimano E5000 250W motor with 40Nm max torque output, and a 418Wh battery. Retail is $1,799.
